100 Effects of After Effects explained : Hue/Saturation

No matter what you do in Adobe After Effects or what you want to do in there, Hue/Saturation is one of the Effects you MUST know!

To show you how it works? I made a copy of a jungle footage and duplicated it and put mask on top one so you could easily compare the result with original as we play with Hue/Saturation. Now we should summon Hue/Saturation (Summoning sounds cooler than let’s use it or something :P)

As you see in orange square on picture above we have Hue/Saturation under Color Correction category and you can use search or summon it from menu as shown below. Its easier to search it and then use drag and drop on the layer you want to apply it to.

As you see with just Hue/Saturation effect you have power to change whole scene into occasions that no one could imagine it’s possible to do ;)

Now remember in Tosinso everyone are allowed to share their knowledge free or for a price (videos). I hope to see you soon on other posts.

Now I drag and drop it on our layer 3 and as shown below its now available and you can see the panel both on Effects Control section and under Effects category of layer (The other effect was added by me before for better video quality don’t mind it)

Master hue :

… No he doesn’t teach Kong Fu ! you can change colors by rotating this wheel or typing a number in front of it. Now lets see how it works:

If you change the value by rotating or typing a number you will see up there where 2 rows of color are located, a change occur and the row blow began to shift and you will notice than color on top row are replacing with colors blow. You may ask “SO what is it good for?” just let me explain Master Saturation and Master Lighting (they don’t teach martial arts either!) and then I show you some fantastic tricks.

Master Saturation:

This variable indicates how much color will be there in your video and -100 would be no color and 100 will be “OK that’s too much!” color. Again you can use anchor to change it or type the desired number in front of it.

Master Lighting:

This one let you make your footage dark or bright and changes with same methods as Master Saturation : You can use anchor to change it or type the desired number in front of it.

Now before we get to colorize, let me show you how simply you can change this jungle footage to a cloudy day, winter, autumn, …

For next one I used a trick. Could you guess what it is?

Yup! From list below I chose a specific color and I turn that to a color between red and orange just like autumn. Those anchors down there will specify the range of colors you want to change.

Go ahead and made few experiment with list of colors and anchors because in this case, That’s the best way to see how they work.

Now How about a blizzard:

Now let’s go to Colorize:

Colorize:

If you tic colorize square, you will see variables you had before are now disabled and variables were disable till now are available and in color rows up there you see that second row changes into a solid color and your footage will seem like it has been painted with color you choose and only brightness remain from old footage I mean dark areas will remain dark and highlights remain highlighted and there are Colorize Saturation and Colorize Lightness instead of those masters variables. Also there are no Channel control.

Now let’s create Oblivion:
